The Smichov Railway Station is located on the left bank of the river Vltava. It is the gate for access from the south-west and for the long-distance trains. The blocks of houses, when blocks are strictly defined by the streets, are typical for Smichov. In the turn of the 20th and 21st century the northern part of Smichov, the former manufacturing district, has been changed to the retail and residential subcentre of Prague. Unfortunately, the scheme of the past era of the hardware society is still used. The concept of the project is based on these theses:
- Rise up this area economically and create a city centre
- Connect the area, which has been separated for more than hundred years by
railway and traffic circuit, with the other parts of Prague
- Promote the Nadrazni street to the free public space with organized traffic node
- Promote the railway building to the free, safe, non-stop living structure
- Speed up and shorten the access ways to the transport node
- Diminish the borders among the city landscape, the traffic node and green park
The area is designed as an open 3D structure, which enables the free passage and
movement of the passengers as well as the visitors in all directions. The structure is
always lit by natural light which is controlled by the intelligent facade system.
